Lily in Venice SOLD

Jo Whitney

Jo's paintings are based on her interpretation of what interests her in her everyday surroundings. Having lived most of her life within a stone's-throw of the sea, waterside scenes play a large part in her work, both at home and abroad. Her deep interest in people and their lives leads to the inclusion of figures in many of her pictures. She paints almost exclusively in oils, and prefers large canvases. The initial laying out of the subject is done rapidly, but despite their spontaneous appearance, further work on the canvases is prolonged and painstaking. Fundamentally a happy and optimistic person, this is reflected in her choice of subjects and colour.

Currently one of her large paintings of Venice is showing at the Llewellyn Alexander Gallery in London

News & Events

The East Neuk Open Studios

The next Open Studios event is on the two weekends November 21-22 and November 28-29.

Come and meet the artists and see their work in the lovely sea-side area of East Scotland with its old fishing villages. Visit the dedicated East Neuk Open Studios site for details and brochures.

The summer opening was a great success with many visitors from both home and abroad. Excellent weather made the weekends even more pleasurable. The month long exhibition at the Byre Theatre, St Andrews, was opened by Kevin Dunion, the Rector of the University of St Andrews, with music by Murdo Macleod and his musicians.
