Jo Whitney
Jo's paintings are based on her interpretation of what interests her in her everyday surroundings. Having lived most of her life within a stone's-throw of the sea, waterside scenes play a large part in her work, both at home and abroad. Her deep interest in people and their lives leads to the inclusion of figures in many of her pictures. She paints almost exclusively in oils, and prefers large canvases. The initial laying out of the subject is done rapidly, but despite their spontaneous appearance, further work on the canvases is prolonged and painstaking. Fundamentally a happy and optimistic person, this is reflected in her choice of subjects and colour.
